We had a very good opening to the new season. At 11.00 it was pouring rain and many people called off, with reason, but one-half hour later it was dry. Rob Gmelig Meijling, our former board member, gave a very interesting tour as an introduction to the cemetery. We had eight new volunteers and 12 from the ‘vastekern’, who came in spite of the forecasted bad weather. After the winter season, there was much work to be done. We removed the ivy from the wall on the Scheveningseweg and spent a lot of time again working in the children’s section, cleaning leaves, checking for gravestones hidden under the grass, and casting away fallen branches. We again found a gravestone of a child, Samuel Perera, hidden under the grass.
